Tips

Removing Smoke Discoloration-

Some of our Customers prefer the look of our products with the discoloring created through the natural Laser Cutting process, we do wipe down certain parts but try to leave most of our models as they are straight off of the Laser. This means there may be some discoloration, mainly around the edges. These stains are created due to smoke and can be wiped off and minimized easily. We recommend using a Micro-Fiber Towel for this, though Paper Towels or regular Towels are viable alternatives. If you would like to paint or stain things or if you don’t like the look of the discoloration there are many ways you can clean things up and/or prepare things for Paint or Stain. We have tested Vinegar, Isopropyl/Denatured Alcohol and Acetone which all work very well (there are other methods, but we only speak to what we have tested). Vinegar is our main go-to for preparing our products for staining or painting since it is less toxic to work with on a Daily Basis, is not flammable and once dried has no smell that we can detect. Acetone and Alcohol do work a bit better, though we try to avoid these in order to keep flammable and toxic materials at a minimum in our Shop for safety reasons.

This doesn’t mean you’ll be able to remove the blackened edges, this is mainly referring to the surfaces, though if you do want to Paint or Stain you should also wipe edges as well for best results, it won’t lighten the edges much but it will help the edges hold paint or stain more efficiently.

A light sanding using 200-600 grit will also help to minimize smoke stains. In combination with a Vinegar/Alcohol/Acetone wipe down you can get really great results. All of our products are pre-sanded using 400 grit sandpaper before the laser process so you should only need to do this if you want to minimize smoke staining.

Removing Super Glue-

Did you glue the wrong parts together or stick your fingers together- who hasn’t done that? You can use any of the cleaning methods above to also remove Super Glue if you need to for any reason. Acetone and Isopropyl/Denatured Alcohol is the best solution for de-gluing parts but for a less flammable or toxic solution Vinegar works as well. It may take multiple applications but these all will break down most types of Super Glue. For removing Super Glue from Skin we only recommend Vinegar- try to keep the glued area soaked so that it will keep breaking down the Glue. While Alcohol and Acetone also work and can break down the glue more efficiently, they are also more abrasive to the Skin so we don’t recommend those as a primary means of removing Glue from the Skin. There are other chemicals that can use to help break down Glue but we can only speak to what we have personal experience with.

Putting Models together (regarding Glue)-

It is highly recommended that you dry fit our models together first without any glue to understand how they are put together. In our Directions we have suggested ‘Glue Spots’, though once you understand how the model is put together you may have better ideas on where to apply any needed glue.

Our Home Models are made to fit tightly so that you don’t need much for them and you may choose to use no Glue at all. The Furniture does require Glue, most of these models won’t stay together without it. We recommend glue for our Vegetation, though it may not be required- they will sit upright without any, though they may come apart when handling, drops in the suggested spots are recommended (see Directions). Glue is recommended for all of our Miniatures even if not required. We try to minimize glue requirements in order to keep things simple but it is still recommended to use if all of our models. We hope to improve our models in the future to further minimize and possibly eliminate the need for it at all. We will always be improving our models and we take listen to feedback, so if you have any see the next section below this one.
